Just 15 minutes from Port Renfrew & Wild Coast Cottages, awaits Avatar Grove – a phenomenal stand of gnarly old-growth red cedar and Douglas fir alongside the Gordon River.

Often referred to as the ‘Cathedral Grove of Port Renfrew’, the area is now protected from logging and offers visitors a chance to lay their eyes on some massive red cedars, including one with a huge burl nearly 12 feet in diameter that has been dubbed “Canada’s Gnarliest Tree”.

Sadly, 99% of the old-growth Douglas-fir trees have been logged from Vancouver Island. But you can still find some of these beauties scattered throughout Avatar Grove.

Construction of boardwalks is currently underway throughout the grove making access even easier for visitors.  This special place is well worth a visit!
