Chanterelles everywhere!

We had to use my hat because our tupperware wasnt big enough!

Here’s a recipe from the tasty dinner that followed!

Wild Chanterelle & Oyster mushroom stroganoff

3 cups sliced wild mushrooms (Chanterelles, Oysters)

1/4 c finely minced red onion

1 clove garlic – crushed

2 roma tomatoes – seeded and finely diced

2 tbs Boursin cheese

1/2 cup cream

small sprig Rosemary

Salt and pepper

Olive oil

1 package of egg noodles, cooked ‘al dente’

heat about 2 tablespoons of Olive Oil on high in a wide frying pan.  Add the onion and sautee until slightly translucent.  Add the mushrooms and spread all over the pan.  Resist the urge to stir – and let the mushrooms stay put and evaporate some of their liquid.  (learned this in a cooking class – over stirring makes mushrooms ‘mushy’). Once the liquid is mostly released, stir in the garlic and tomatoes and let it be for several more minutes until there’s hardly and liquid left in the pan and the mushrooms and tomatoes are well-cooked. Turn down the heat to low.  Once not too hot, add the cream, scraping up any bottom bits from the pan.  Season with kosher salt and pepper.  Pour over hot noodles & serve.  Yum!

On October 1^st , Three Point Properties hosted the first Wild Coast Cottages block party: a wine and cheese bringing together cottage owners to get to know each other and meet their new neighbours! It was a beautiful, warm autumn evening in Port Renfrew and we had a great turnout.  It was fantastic to watch the cottage owners connect with one another: one cottage owner showed up to the party with freshly caught crab, an impromptu bonfire was lit as the sun went down, and some neighbours enjoyed one another’s company so much so that they carried on past midnight!

As a developer, it is amazing to experience firsthand a development truly becoming a community. One cottage owner’s personal experience taking possession of his cottage this summer compelled him to write this poem about it.  We couldn’t have said it better:

“Renfrew Revisited”

Of all beguiling neighbourhoods

None beats our cabin-in-the-woods.

Its modest beauty so disarming

It’s best described as truly charming.

With giant trees and surging seas

And silver salmon sure to please.

No prim Victoria – it’s West Coast savage,

You come here, you leave your baggage!

Here we can live our lives unfettered,

Our spirits buoyed, or bodies bettered.

Our burdened hearts once more set free,

Here in our woods we can just…be.

Our new marina also went in without a hitch, and it’s already being enjoyed by many boaters and anglers.

As our Wild Coast Cottages neighborhood and marina has come together, a small commercial area of new local businesses has sprouted up next door!  You will now find a healthy food & farmers market store, a day spa and a great new cafe, literally a stone’s throw away.

The 'Real Goods Market'

The “Real Goods Market” carries a great selections of natural food staples such as wheat-free dry goods, organic fruits and vegetables, quality bread, hormone-free frozen meats, natural ice creams and healthy snacks.  It’s great to be able to walk next door and pick up some great healthy food.

Best Latte in Port Renfrew!

‘Tomi’s Homestyle Cookin‘ replaced the old San Juan bistro next door.  This is a fantastic spot to grab your breakfast & morning latte!  Walking proximity to good coffee is a must for many city-dwellers – we’re sure Tomi’s is a major ‘plus’ for many of our cottage owners.

If hiking the big trees or hauling up salmon & halibut has you tired out, you can now get a massage or a mani-pedi at the new Local Mist Spa.  Tucked in between the ‘Real goods Market’ and ‘Tomi’s', this tiny spa offers the perfect respite from the day’s adventures.

The Port Renfrew chamber of commerce has a neat little visitors centre in this area too. So now you can wander over from Wild Coast Cottages, grab a coffee and a snack and maybe get directions to Avatar Grove or book a kayak tour.  Does it get any better than that?!

The Pacific Gateway Marina

The Wild Coast Cottages marina site is also much closer to the ‘heart’ of Port Renfrew, making the area that much more attractive for future small shops and tourism operators.  It’s also just steps from Wild Coast Cottages – quite literally.

As it turns out, we may have hit the mark.  Sales of the initial release of 20 lots at Wild Coast Cottages far exceeded expectations.  In fact, the first release of 20 cottages sold out so quickly that Three Point released its 2011 phase (20 more cottages) in Fall of 2010.  To date (July 19, 2011), there are now 35 cottages sold and 5 still available.  The 5 remaining cottages range in price from $145,900 to $175,900, which includes the lot, a fully-built cottage (including deck and appliances) and HST.

The neighbourhood is really beginning to take shape, with now more than a dozen cottages now fully-installed, furnished  and landscaped.  Occupancy has already begun, with the first owners enjoying summer in their beautiful new cottages!

If bigger cottages and waterfront are more your cup of tea, stay tuned for the next phase at Wild Coast Cottages.  We’ll soon be announcing details about 40 waterfront and water-view, 2-bedroom cottages starting in the mid $200k’s.
